| Excellent Authors, Great Books Here are some of my favorite authors, and some of the best books I have read |
| I am an avid reader. There is never a time when I am not reading a book, and usually I'm reading two or three at a time. In fact, I had to get a job at a bookstore to be able to feed my habit! I read about 2-1 fiction to non-fiction ratio, but I read both with equal ferver. First I'll tell you what I don't read-I don't ever read Romance novels and barely ever read women's fiction. People have said I have a "mans" taste in fiction, as I like Thrillers the best. I love horror, suspense, any kind of creepy stuff. Cop Thrillers, murder mysteries. I love the classics, and many of the Victorian authors. I like the old sagas, Beowulf, The Kalevala, and Homer, I've read it. I love mythology, Celtic, Norse, Greek, I've read it all. Therefore, I love historical fiction and fantasy. Camelot and King Arthur stories, I've read them all. Swords and spears, Knights and Ladies, Kings and Queens, steel armour and leather jerkins, iron and velvet, seige towers and trebuchets, castles and fortresses, witches and wizards, magic and alchemy, dragons and griffins, mystical beings and creatures, that's the stuff I really love. If it's got a 'Medieval' flair, chances are I've read it, or it's in my que. I am very picky and critical of fantasy though. I'm not one of those who reads every fantasy author looking for the next Tolkien. There will never be another J R R. And there's only a handful of fantasy authors who even come remotely close. There's been many a fantasy novel I've put down, many a series I gave up on the first or second book. Some people have the impression I read a lot of fantasy, but I actually read more suspense thrillers than anything. There are some authors who I think are a garaunteed great read. These are authors that I've read EVERYTHING, or mostly everything they've ever written. These are the authors I want to share with you here. These authors have brought me so much joy with their stories (even when they make my skin crawl, like Dean Koontz does) that I feel the need to praise them here, with the hope that others who haven't found them yet will take a chance and pick up a book by one of them. I can only wish that others take so much pleasure in getting lost in a good book as I do. |
